Introduction
The year 2024 was a remarkable one for the crypto industry. Numerous new projects were launched, key narratives and trends emerged, Bitcoin triumphantly broke the $100K mark, and many new chains went live on mainnet. Symbiosis was no exception, and as we prepared this article, gathering all the key milestones in one place, we were struck by the sheer scale and significance of the work we’ve accomplished.
Looking back we can confidently say that Symbiosis is now bigger and better than ever before.
Welcome to our annual recap of 2024 key events and metrics — let's dive in!
Achievements and Statistics
2024 was a year of exceptional growth for Symbiosis, with significant achievements across all key metrics. From user adoption to transaction volumes, the numbers speak for themselves and reflect the immense progress we’ve made in enhancing cross-chain capabilities and user experiences.
One of the standout figures is Symbiosis TVL— according to DeFiLlama, it has more than tripled, compared to December 2023! Another significant improvement is the optimization of the protocol itself, which has led to the average transaction speed more than tripling to date.
Let’s take a moment to look directly at the other protocol stats that highlight the performance. 2024 was nothing short of incredible for Symbiosis, and the numbers make that crystal clear.
Addresses increased by 231%, transactions soared by 262%, and total volume processed rose by 142% — a testament to the incredible progress we’ve made together.
Moving to the key events!
Key Highlights of the Year
Here, we’ve gathered the most significant milestones for the protocol. Some of them have brought major upgrades to cross-chain capabilities and user experience, others highlight Symbiosis’ adoption in different sectors of the crypto industry, and some are specifically aimed at delighting and rewarding our users for choosing Symbiosis as their go-to bridge. Here’s a closer look at them.
This initiative highlights our commitment to giving back to the community and will become a permanent part of our efforts to reward active participation.
Launch of TON Bridge v1 and v2
The first version, released in June, provided a straightforward solution for one-way swaps into TON. Later in the year, we unleashed the TON Bridge v2 — a fully-fledged decentralized solution that supports two-way swaps and connects TON and USDT-TON to over 1,000 tokens across 34 networks. It’s a massive upgrade that without exaggeration can be called a real game-changer that redefines cross-chain interactions for the TON ecosystem.
Earlier in the year, we introduced our initial Bitcoin integration powered by ThorChain, marking Bitcoin's first appearance in the Symbiosis Protocol. While this one-way bridge enabled initial liquidity inflows, it became clear that a more robust and versatile solution was needed.
Later in the year, we unveiled the fully-fledged Any-BTC-Any Bridge, which supports two-way swaps between native Bitcoin and tokens across Ethereum, L2s, BTC sidechains, and more. By overcoming the limitations of existing solutions — high fees, slow transaction times, and reliance on centralized platforms — we’ve delivered a decentralized, efficient, and secure Bitcoin, bridging it to the broader DeFi ecosystem.
In December, Symbiosis launched Solana Bridge v1, connecting Solana’s fast-growing ecosystem with over 20 networks through 15 unique routes. Powered by Chainflip, the bridge enables seamless swaps into SOL and USDC-SOL, offering effortless liquidity flow and onboarding for users. This marks a key step in integrating Solana’s vibrant DeFi landscape, with the future Solana Bridge v2 we aim to expand these capabilities even further.
Introduction of the Deflation Framework
This year we introduced the Deflation Framework as an important component of the upcoming protocol upgrade. This initiative focuses on optimizing the $SIS token model by reducing supply through controlled burns, ensuring the token remains aligned with the protocol's growth and sustainability goals.
What sets this framework apart is its community-driven approach. By involving Symbiotes in DAO voting, we ensure that decisions on token mechanics reflect the shared vision of our users. This is more than an adjustment — it’s a step toward a more robust and future-prepared Symbiosis ecosystem.
In Q1 2024 we launched the Fee Deduction Program with one clear goal — to give our users even more opportunities and rewards for being part of the Symbiosis ecosystem. By holding $veSIS tokens, users unlock growing discounts on cross-chain swaps, making transactions smoother and more cost-effective as a thank-you for their support.
$veSIS tokens, earned through staking $SIS, don’t just reduce fees — they provide governance rights and boosted %APR, allowing our users to participate in the future of Symbiosis while also gaining more value in return.
Integration into Telegram Mini-Apps
We took a significant step by integrating Symbiosis into Telegram mini-apps, starting with a partnership with iMe. This integration brings fast and seamless on-chain and cross-chain swaps directly into popular platforms like iMe Wallet, which boasts over 1.5M monthly active users.
Our cross-chain routing capabilities have also been implemented in LIME Game, a growing Telegram mini-app with 700K monthly players. Here, users complete on-chain tasks through the iMe wallet interface.
This marks just the beginning of Symbiosis’ journey in the TON and Telegram ecosystems. This became one of our important development streams — more integrations are on the way. Stay tuned!
In 2024, we introduced regular airdrops to reward our loyal $veSIS holders — a practice we believe is essential for recognizing their support. Recently, we distributed 17,500 $SCR and 10,000 $TAIKO to users with an active $veSIS lock and at least one cross-chain swap.
This initiative highlights our commitment to giving back to the community and will become a permanent part of our efforts to reward active participation.
Integrations and Partnerships
Symbiosis formed over 22 network integrations and 6 partnerships this year, further expanding its ecosystem. These included collaborations with Symbiotic, Cronos, Cronos zkEVM, Fraxtal, Gravity, and much more, reinforcing the protocol’s focus on cross-chain connectivity.
We’d also like to highlight another focus stream — BTCfi. Alongside launching our native BTC bridge, we dedicated significant attention to integrating prominent BTC L2 networks into our app, including Merlin, Rootstock, and B2 Network. By connecting BTC-related networks within a single interface, we’re building and supporting the infrastructure for this important narrative.
Community Campaigns
The year 2024 also turned out to be packed with campaigns — over 22 in total. These included not only our initiatives but a variety of ecosystem-wide collaborations with our partners. We’re grateful for these collaborations — they make working together both exciting and enjoyable!
Some of the standout events are worth highlighting:
Trust Wallet x Symbiosis campaign with $50,000 giveaway
Rootstock World Tour campaign with $33,000 prizes
And currently ongoing Symbiosis: Genesis of Gravty campaign in collaboration with Gravity Chain
All these campaigns attracted thousands of users, integrating them into the different ecosystems, united by Symbiosis and providing a truly smooth and seamless cross-chain experience. This is something Symbiosis consistently delivers and continues to refine.
Conclusion: Symbiosis Plans for 2025
We are not stopping here! As we look ahead to 2025, one thing is certain: we’ll continue expanding cross-chain capabilities, integrating with more networks, and delivering even smoother and faster user experiences.
Our commitment to decentralization and security remains unwavering and every upgrade we implement brings us closer to fully distributed architectures. Their reliability is always ensured with rigorous audits — future upgrades will be no exception.
Striving to be better, faster, and stronger, we remain focused on the end user — constantly analyzing data, metrics, and user behavior to provide the best experience possible.
Boundaries and limits? We know how to break them.
